On Politics

So, President Obama is scheduled to speak to students next week. Cause for panic? Probably not. Do I agree with his stance on most issues? No. Will I encourage Carter to listen to and learn from his speech? Absolutely.

While my views differ from the president's in many cases, I show nothing but support and enthusiasm when discussing such issues with Carter.

Frankly, I'm over the notion to hate Obama simply because I'm a Republican. This very behavior was everpresent during George Bush's two terms and I feel my party is in a frenzy trying to equate the same lack of support.

Our nation is a mess right now. People are struggling on many levels and while I don't think Obama is on the right track to fix our problems, I don't see how making our kids panic over a speech is helping anything. My role as a mother is to raise an independent child fully equipped to think for himself, thus deciding on his own whether our government is succeeding or not. And, you know what? He doesn't care. He's an 8 year old boy. His mind is focused on soccer practice and the Diary of a Wimpy Kid book series. And, I prefer to keep it that way.

Medical News

My conservative nature has always had me at odds with the debate regarding stem cell research. But, Caroline's diseases - Scleroderma and Pulmonary Artery Hypertension -have opened my eyes and mind to the need for further testing.

While they insist that it involves no ties to Obama's taking office and that politics don't play a role, it certainly is an interesting coincidence. See article here for news on the FDA allowing the first test of human stem cell therapy. Obama is expected to lift restrictions on federal funding soon.

This advancement in medicine could mean huge things for many parts of the medical world.

I think I might just like this guy after all.

It's no secret that I was, am, and will be a conservative when it comes to most issues in government. However, I'm a firm believer in supporting our president and setting that example for our children.

Carter has been very interested in this election and voted in school.

For John McCain and John Adams.

I tried to discuss the Adams vote with him and he told me I was crazy for not believing he was running. OK, I'll leave that alone. Just glad he can name a president!

Perhaps this was derived from our teaching Carter the members of Bush's cabinet years ago. Never will forget his 2 year old pronounciation of "Condeyeeza Rice."

I've shared this website with him and we will be checking in often. Although Obama and I disagree on many things, I do feel that America has regained some hope for the future and that makes me happy.

McCain

No, I'm not trying to change your vote if you're headed to the booth with Obama in mind. But, this article spells out why I'm voting for McCain.

Favorite line:
I will go down with the McCain ship. I'd rather lose an election than lose my bearings.

Another:
McCain's critics are offended that he raised the issue of William Ayers. What's astonishing is that Obama was himself not offended by William Ayers.

Most polls indicate Obama will win on November 4, and as much as I oppose that idea, I will enjoy listening to what flies out of Biden's mouth over the next four years. There is no mystery in the fact that he's been muzzled for the past several weeks. And, then when they let him speak, this scenario unfolded:
There's just no comparison. Obama's own running mate warned this week that Obama's youth and inexperience will invite a crisis -- indeed a crisis "generated" precisely to test him. Can you be serious about national security and vote on Nov. 4 to invite that test?

And how will he pass it? Well, how has he fared on the only two significant foreign policy tests he has faced since he's been in the Senate? The first was the surge. Obama failed spectacularly. He not only opposed it. He tried to denigrate it, stop it and, finally, deny its success.

The second test was Georgia, to which Obama responded instinctively with evenhanded moral equivalence, urging restraint on both sides. McCain did not have to consult his advisers to instantly identify the aggressor.

OK, I'm done.

The First To Go

Since we're selling our house, I couldn't very well put out the John McCain sign I had purchased a few weeks before Blake accepted his promotion. No need to cut out 50% of our potential buyers....especially here in this swing state of Colorado.

So, I put it out at our yard sale with a note sure to annoy Blake....(successful)....and I'm proud to say that the sign was the first thing to be taken away.

Now, whether or not it was taken straight to the trash or proudly displayed on some one's lawn....I cannot confirm. I'm hoping for the latter.

Conservatism

It takes great effort on my part each day not to post about politics, because it's something I find completely fascinating and now more than ever. What a race this has become! Most people know I'm a conservative, but I enjoy learning about all parties. Obama and McCain both have very interesting stories.

But, this site is about my dorky family, our day to day lives, what Batman is up to.....rather than a Republican platform. I promise I will try to keep it that way.

Right after I post this article on Sarah Palin and the future of conservatism. I really like this woman. Let's cross our fingers that the Enquirer rumors are false. Or, keep them un-crossed if you're a liberal. A year ago I would have laughed at such, but the Edwards story has made me second guess the possibility.

OK, OK.....no more politics for at least a week. Starting now!
