Scoop + A Controversial Message That Not Everyone Will Agree With

A sweet dog named Cali has learned to wiggle herself into our iron fence.  She visited us twice over the weekend.  The kids now think she's adoptable.

No chance.  She has a collar and a family who loves her.  Hard for little ones to understand.

Lainey and I went to the Just Hatched studio on Friday for a photo shoot.  Pics coming soon!

She swiped the lollipop on her way out.  Yum.

I had a martini for the first time in forever Friday night.  Even yummier.

Cali's second visit.  She sure is cute.  Labra-doodle.

Look at how big Finn is!  She didn't think Cali was so cute.

"Wook, Mom.  Der friends.  Wet's keep Cali!"

Our little basketball star scored the game winning point in overtime on Saturday.

He doesn't stand out as much as he did last year because he's not allowed to take 3 point shots and is involved in plays and more of a strategy to the game as compared to his previous season.

So, it was fun to see him get some of the glory this game.

I absolutely loved the mailboxes on this post

I didn't have the time to search high and low for candle sticks like the tutorial suggested, so we had to brainstorm.  Carter helped me.

The final product........Davidge kids' Valentine holders.

Easy peasy lettering.

Created both families' boxes at the same time.  I'll take a pic of ours and our Valentine mantle soon enough.

Mailbox stems were created from tiny soda cans.

It worked!  Carter suggested toilet paper rolls, but we didn't think we'd be able to come up with 7 at a moment's notice.  So, I suggested this method.  Happy it turned out so well.

Love the art for this season!

While visiting Holly and kids, I showed Ainsley how to paint with pudding.

(Can you tell I miss babies?  No rational mother of one would do this for fun.)

She did more eating and less painting.

Seriously the easiest baby ever.  Love her.

OK, and now for a little controversy.

This article is getting a lot of attention along with tons of moms chanting "Totally agree!" on Facebook.

And, I don't agree with it.

And, I'm kind of resentful of it.  I don't like the message and it's not just because I am one of "those moms" who does "Carpe diem" each day.

I'm here to tell you that it DOES go fast.  I turned around the other day and realized that my oldest will be 12 this year and my youngest will be 5.  Five, people.  It breaks my heart.

I'm proud to "Carpe diem" each day because I think that is what our children deserve.  This by no means suggest that our lives are perfect or even all that pretty most of the time.  But, my kids and my husband and my family and my friends and my life gets 100% out of me nearly every day.  Life is so short.  And, parenting is a tough, exhausting job, but it's one that I cherish.

I understand that the author's main objective was to encourage the reader to accept that parenting is a tough job and that not every day will be easy.  But, in a way, I think this might enable parents to give less than what their children are deserving of.

Does that make sense?

Oh, and I WILL be one of those old ladies in the grocery store saying,

"Oh, Enjoy every moment. This time goes by so fast."

Because it does.

You're the only one I know of who agrees with me in the carpe diem article. My daughter turns 17 next week and I'm here to tell moms that it FLIES by and if you don't try to make the most of it, you'll regret it later.

Can't wait to see Lainey's pictures!! She's getting so tall!
Just looked at that article. Since I'm off FB I'm out of the loop.
I'm sure you know how I feel. Geez!!! REDIC!
I heard my BIL say at the beach this Summer that he couldn't wait for us to have kids so our lives could be as miserable as his.
Can you believe that?Granted, the kids were a nightmare on the beach trip but someone who is having a tough time even conceiving it stung.
I was embarrassed for him.

I wish you could keep Cali. She is soooo adorable!

Interesting article. I am glad I read it. Parenting is sooo hard, but I try to enjoy every minute because it's already zipping right by. My baby is 5! Boo hoo!

Congratulations to your son on his winning shot! Your daughter is adorable and the pudding covered little girl--hilarious!

I'm glad you brought up that article! You're the only one I've come across who hasn't raved about it. I was beginning to think something was off with me!

I liked the article and thought it was entertaining to read, but I didn't agree with a lot of what she said. I still want to appreciate these days or at least most of them. :)

Ok so I fail miserably most days at giving 100% and being the best mom/spouse that I can be. But that doesn't mean I don't start out each morning with the goal of giving 100% and doing everything I can and cherish our time together - even when my kids are screaming at me and complaining! Honestly I wouldn't trade it for anything!

I agree too, Case. I think the chick that wrote this article is taking those comments WAY too seriously. And taking parenting WAY too seriously. Live a little. Who cares if your kids are wackos at Target and drive you crazy. Let them be kids! And laugh and enjoy it. Don't freak out about every moment and whether or not you're enjoying it. JUST DO IT. People think to much. Just be.

I 100% agree with you. This life goes way too fast and we need to enjoy every moment of it. Now that I have a nephew and I have seen how fast he is growing, I totally understand where you are coming from. My sister got sad just yesterday because she packed away clothes that no longer fit him. He's only 4 months old! I think you are a WONDERFUL mom and I love how you CARPE DIEM!

That is one of the many things I love about you Casey. Your carpe diem personality shines through every post. Your kids will be able to look back at these posts one day and see how much you loved being their mom. Carpe diem is the only way to go!

Girl I think this author needs a little God in her life!!! Each day she has is a blessing and they do go by so fast. My oldest is 15 and I look at my 3 yr old and wish I would have cherished more of my days with my oldest at this age. I wish I would have been more present and not wanting to hurry the day along.

I saw a sneeky peaky of L's pics on fb. So freaking cute!

That dog is adorable. Could you NOT let him come in from the rain? Poor thing. He looked so sad.

keep the dog!!! OMG I love the painting with pudding. that wasn't our technique but my kids still look like that after a choco pudding cup. I totally agree with carpe diem, the time does fly. I still wish I had those baby moments back. BUT i totally get what the lately from the article is talking about. I am trying to chase christian off the freaking dining table right now. and can't wait for bed time right now so that i can take a shit alone. the rewards of parenting are FAB but sometimes those target lines can kick my ass!

I read the article and I loved it, but I also know that I will miss this phase too! I definitely dont mind people telling me that it goes so fast. I think it is a great reminder! I actually enjoy my baby girl not being able to talk back yet :)

You make a great point! I see both sides but like yours better! Our children DO deserve our very best each day. Nothing less. Thanks for the reminder!

First, Fancy Nancy has a labradoodle. Cute. Fancy. Perfect.

Is Carter the perfect child or what? He is creative helping with the Valentine's craft and being a super star athlete AND a reader. You are one lucky mama.

The MJ outfit, the heart lolli and the stinkin cute girl makes for one great photo session.

Why didn't I do more chocolate pudding painting with Missy Mack?

On article, I AGREE!

Being the mother of an only child, who I absolutely adore, I stress about savoring every moment. I am so afraid I will not have that moment again. Even when she is screaming her head off at me for saying no. I already feel like her short life has passed too quickly. I say Carpe Diem. I wish I were better at seizing the moment. The author of the article sounds like she is a whiny b who doesn't find gratitude in motherhood.

CASEY!! Just stopped by to say hi. Haven't been blogging a lot (obviously) but miss everybody. So glad I picked today, this post in particular. I DON'T AGREE EITHER! In fact, a couple of my super sweet friends suggested that article and I was like... um, no. I LOVE to carpe diem even if it means staring at my kids as they watch the wiggles on TV. Even when they are driving me bonkers, I still get misty thinking that someday...someday in the not too far away future...they WON'T be driving me bonkers... well, like this at least. I am just hanging on with both hands... :) Anyhow, I hope you are well. Lainey (and the boys, too!) is adorable. So grown up... sigh! CARPE DIEM INDEED!!! :)

I have mixed feelings on the carpe diem piece, but totally agree on how time moves so fast. Blink and you miss it. And I hate to miss anything. Love the MacGyver approach to the Valentine's mailboxes!

When did Finn get so big??! And so cute that Cali is visiting...
Can't wait to see Miss Lainey's pictures- her MJ outfit is adorable :)
And I'm with you on the Carpe Diem. I live that way now and don't plan to stop once Quinn is here. I'm already worried she's going to get big too fast and I haven't even met her yet.
