Lainey's personality is blossoming on a daily basis and now that she's talking and doing more, we're seeing a whole new side to her.
For example.....say something to her that she doesn't like?
"Shut up!"
It's really a nice little addition to her vocabulary. Especially when we're out in public.
Tell her to sit still in her car seat?
"Chill, mama!"
Nice.
Another new addition is a collection of dirty looks that only the ugliest of people could rival. In fact, the nurse at the doctor's office said she'd never seen a baby girl with such a fierce reaction to her taking her temperature. She laughed and laughed and then returned to the doctor's station to spread the word. About my daughter shooting her a dirty look like no other.
Makes a mama proud.

Aspen Bomb Threat
Sad story about a man disenchanted with Aspen's growing popularity and reputation for being a playground for the wealthy. Article here.
I was in Aspen for New Year's Eve exactly 10 years ago and paid $125 for a ticket to get into Eric's Cigar Bar for New Year's Eve. Betting it is quite a bit more expensive now and that there were plenty of unhappy tourists when 16 blocks of the downtown area (which covers just about everything) was shut down that evening.
Before moving here, I had skied Colorado twice and fell in love with Aspen. Now that I live here, I understand that most people in and around Denver don't care for it. Too expensive, too popular, over-flowing with celebrities....and why go 4 hours into the mountains when you can ski at numerous resorts 1-2 hours in? I distinctly remember having a brief conversation at a snowboard shop a couple of years ago about Aspen and being told by a local that "no one here claims it."
Regardless of its reputation, I enjoy going there. It's a beautiful area and I'll gladly claim it.

Zoo Lights
On Christmas Day, we took the kids to Zoo Lights and it was a lot of fun. Not unlike Boo at the Zoo or other similar occasions.....the zoo is decorated accordingly and they have extra vendors, lots of hands-on exhibits and the kids seem to love it. In our familiar territory, as we go often....but with a fun twist.
Blake took this picture to document what is a very accurate glimpse into my daily life as a single mother. One child attached to me, another being ornery nearby, and Carter running in an entirely different direction.

Jack in his new choo-choo boots. As hideous as they are, I couldn't love them more because they bring such joy to Jack.
A few animals were out to see.....only those native to cold weather. The polar bear, of course.
Always entertaining Sea Lions. These are our kids' favorites.
The giraffe house was open. Such beautiful animals to me.

On the way home. My Aunt Donna sent each of our kids a travel buddy like Carter is using, suggesting they were perfect for the "kids on the go." Loved that and they love the buddies!

2008
Several blogs have posted highlights for the year and I've promised a few people I'd do the same. While I think it would be entirely more interesting to list those people (you know who you are) and events (house selling) that have frustrated me over this past year, I'll remain PC and post the good stuff.
So, here are some highlights....in no particular order.
Blake's big move to the home office. So proud of him.
Puerto Rico! Such a beautiful place to visit. Far exceeded our expectations.
Lainey's Catholic baptism.....at our old church in Keller, TX....so that Aunt Caroline, her Godmother, could attend. The boys were baptised in the same church. Still trying to think of excuses to put a bonnet on her since this day.
Widespread Panic at Red Rocks, the holy grail of live concerts. No place like it.
Maci Kaye's arrival in July.
Jack's first time on skies.
A more extensive venture into the blogging world, bringing close friends and wonderful connections to women all over the U.S.
Several trips into the mountains.....Glenwood Springs Cavern pictured here. Camped in a tent for the first time in Estes Park. Rented a cabin at the YMCA of the Rockies. Another trip to Aspen in the spring. And, more day trips to ski than I can remember.
Considered a total beating to most.....Thomas the Tank Engine Day at the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden. It was such a treat watching Jack enjoying it all.

Spring Break trip to Mt. Rushmore, the Black Hills of South Dakota, Custer, Wyoming, Deadwood and more.
