Color

I've been on a mission for about 4 years now to add more color to our house.  I want a happy, whimsical, fun space to live in each day......and we're making progress with each thing we buy and do.

Blake and I have always chosen simple, classic pieces of furniture to transition with each of our 'themes'.  It works well with an ever changing approach to design......no need to change EVERYTHING......instead add to or take away elements.

We bought a large ottoman about 7 years ago and it's been recovered several times......each with a different fabric that matches our current colors.  Blake recovers it himself.  This one is actually covered with a table cloth.

He's good, huh?  Fabric + staple gun = new ottoman.

And, within the year, it will be spilled on, painted, colored and likely glued to something.  So, we'll recover in about 12 months.

We painted recently.....the fireplace and a couple of statement walls.  We have very high ceilings in this house, so we're limited on what we can paint.  We have only hired painters once....when I was pregnant with Lainey......all other projects are done by us.  I hate to think of hiring someone to paint.  The cost of labor is outrageous and it's such a simple thing to do yourself.

This new paint makes me happy.

I'm going to add plants to the actual "fire" place and it will transition with seasons.....with pumpkins, Easter baskets, etc.....adorning the butter yellow brick as we move through the year.

I saw this recent touch on facebook.....putting a table runner under your TV.  Love the color splash and pattern it adds to a rather boring part of the room.

Here is a peak at the gray.......the larger, adjacent wall is painted this color, too.

I pass this small gray wall with whimsical, fun art about a dozen times each day and it always makes me happy.

Next up?

Morning chores chart for the school year.
Homework station.
Desk organization.
Finish memory book updates.

I made progress today:

Baby books are a thing of the past for this family.  Filed away for the future.  Now, we update memory books with details on each school year......with pockets full of report cards, school IDs, awards, etc.

If you don't have one of these for your school age child, I highly recommend it.  Easy to keep everything in one place.  Your child signs his name for each year.....predicts what his future occupation will be.....lists friends and special events, and more.  So cute to look back on one day.

And, finally.....two dreaded clean outs await.  I've sorted and re-organized every square inch of this house over the past 6 months.  Two things remain - our game closet and the armoire in our room.

Take a look at this:

I know.

The horror.

Don't stand too close.

I have an amoire that looks like that too.
It's horrifying.
It's mainly photo albums. I wish I had a clever way to keep/display all my scrapbooks and photo albums.
Also, where do you buy those memory books? I want to to do that!

I despise cleaning out the game and puzzle closet. It is a total disaster and makes me so mad when I clean it.

Ugh. I wish I could take an entire week off from work just to clean out closets/cabinets/pantry/garage.
