Me

This is stuff that makes me happy.

Not because it benefits my kids. Not because it makes them happy. This is my list......composed of my loves......because I think we, as mothers, often mistake one for the other.

Snow Sports - Love them all. I'm a decent skier and will be concentrating on snowboarding next season. I love being out in the cold, in tune with nature and gliding down a mountain. It just feels good.

Widespread Panic - Few things make me happier than being at a concert with my husband. It's very much something we both love and seeing Widespread a couple times a year reconnects us. Makes me feel like a kid again. Even though I am likely twice the age of some of the kids there.

Movies + Popcorn - You know this one. Two hours of not thinking, not serving, not cleaning, not wiping toddler booties.

Living With 4 Seasons - I thank God each day for where we live and hope we will always be lucky enough to enjoy winter, spring, summer and fall. Each brings its own unique qualities that make me happy.

Red Bull - A little burst of energy and liquid sweetness. I love it.

Summer Concerts In The Park - Live music under the trees. Wine. Fireflies. Bubble wands. Blissful.

History - Learning who, what, where and why gives everything a deeper meaning. I love to learn it and share it. If it's haunted, I will enjoy it even more.

The Beach - Any beach. Blake and I have been lucky enough to hit the beach nearly every year since we married. Akumal, Cabo, Puerto Rico, Cozumel, Hawaii, Galveston, La Jolla and more. Sometimes with kids. Sometimes without. Both ways make me smile.

Books - I am always engrossed in a book. It puts me to sleep at night and entertains me while I'm waiting.....in the carpool lane, for a movie.....seems like I'm often in the car waiting on something.

Halloween - My love of hauntings feeds into this fall celebration, which kicks off the holiday season. Costumes, spooky movies, decorating.....all of it.

Circle E Candles - Or any good candles.....but these are the best I have found.

Nature - Enjoying God's gifts......not man-made.......getting down on the ground.....walking, hiking, sitting......any version of loving the earth makes me happy.

Cooking - Putting on an apron (always), trying a new recipe and feeding my family makes me feel like I'm doing something right. I enjoy hearing their feedback and making adjustments to suit their needs. I genuinely love creating, so cooking is a fine extension of that love.

My Catholic Faith - The ritualistic mass, our history and sacraments. I love being Catholic. Seeing all 3 of my kids do the sign of the cross makes me smile.

Keeping In Touch - I pride myself on being really good at keeping in touch with people. Facebook has reconnected me with so many special friends. I'm diligent about thank-you notes, holiday cards and gifts when I'm able to buy. This makes me happy - reaching out to people and staying in contact. This blog is another form of that love.

Family - My family beyond Blake, Carter, Jack and Lainey mean the world to me. I've been blessed with so many special relationships and cherish each of them.

Travel Planning - Creating an itinerary and spending months dreaming of the fun and adventure makes me absolutely giddy. I love it as much as going on the trip.

Things I would like to add to this list:

Running - I HATE it. Just started the Couch Potato to 5K and I'm pretty sure it's going to kill me. This is my second attempt. I'd love to one day love running. I know people do. I'm just not one of them.

Working - I've always enjoyed working, but have been home for 4 years now with kids. In the next few years, I hope to return to the workforce and I hope I enjoy it as much as I did before.

OK. How about you? Give it a try and make your own list!

I forgot to say...I love that you have so many passions! That's what life is all about!

I love candles too! Have you ever tried Tyler candles? Good stuff - my favorite flavor (right now) is Panache.

I recently tried the Couch Potato to 5K and failed miserably! I am a morning person but had to go before my hubby left for work (I like that time alone without a stroller). I just wasn't disciplined enough to get up at 6:00 a.m. Corinne doesn't wake up til 9:00 or so and by then, I like to be ready for the day. Oh well! Will try again.

We have so much in common!! Except for the Halloween thing. I'm not a fan of scary. Used to be but now I'm a weenie.

Love your list... love learning more about you. A little list of my own:
Starbucks
Extra butter on my movie popcorn
Cupcakes
My Kitties
Friends
Walking after a fresh snowfall, with silence all around and looking up into a streetlight to watch the snow flurrying about
Yankee Candles
The smell of the air in autumn
Being up north
Italian food and tacos

So fun thinking about what makes my heart skip a beat... this is the stuff life is all about!!

What a fun post! It is the little things that keeps us all going, isn't it? Things I love (a short version...whole list is long:

Coffee
Gain Island Fresh laundry detergent
Hawaii (many summers spent there as a child, a really awesome Spring Break trip senior year of SMU, and Dave and I got married there)
HOT, HOT weather (I love Texas in the summer!)
Hazlenut Cream candles from Walmart (they are delicious smelling and cheap!)
Anything to do with the 1980's
Dance movies (Chorus Line is my fave!)
NYC in the winter time
Sirius radio in my car
Cherry Limeades from Sonic
El Fenix hot sauce

I will end there...I could go on forever!

I love how you posted a Mom's love post because it is things that you love and not necessarily your family. Take time for yourself you deserve it!

What a great list! I too like Circle E but Bird of Paradise is the one I cannot stand - end up with a headache from that one, but the other's...yum!

And yay for Galveston coming back to its glory after Ike.

I've tried C25K twice now and it's been a FAIL each time. One day I WILL conquer it.

And in honor of the best one on there - Peace be with you!

Boy, you and I are RIGHT ON on a BUNCH of these! I just recently moved up from Florida, where I spent the last sixteen years. When that first Autumn rolled around, I was literally in tears! I couldn't believe how much I missed it!! DEFINITELY get your love of ALL FOUR seasons!

Mel, I have tried Tylers and they're good. But, for the $$, I stand by Circle E. Coco just gave me my first Orleans candle. Fabulous.

Tiffany, treat yourself to a Red Bull.

Loving everyone's lists!

I need to try a Circle E candle - or Orleans candle. Are they the same and Orleans is just the flavor? Scott would be very pleased if they are cheaper :) Are they super strong like Tyler? I love it when it smells up a room - or area of the house :) I love good smells (on people, in homes, outside, everywhere)!

Happy Hump Day!

I am so with you on the running thing. I took four semesters of jogging in college because I was not coordinated enough for anything else, and I always felt great after I would run, but HATED every single minute of it while I was running.

This is such a great post!! I'm most definitely going to have to make my own list now because I think it's important to stop and think about yourself before you get lost in all the hubbub of life (yes, I did use the word hubbub LOL).

Thank you for reminding us to regain our passions :)

What a great post! You are right, I think us moms get jumbled up what are our loves vs. what are our family's loves! This sparked an interest in me! I think I will make a post with my list! Thanks for the idea.

P.S. You have got to be one of the neatest persons I have met!

Great post! I am sad to say I have to think hard about this because like you said, my loves are way too much about my people and not just me. Thanks for the insight and the idea.

Fun list! We have several things in common. I do like my seasons, so I'm worried about that now that I'll be living in the Northwest. Seems like they have about two! Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised. :)

I do like the snow, but surprisingly have never skied. I'm not sure if I could take up downhill skiing at the ripe old age of 34, but maybe cross country? Have you ever done any of that?
