Yall sick of La Jolla yet? If so, check back in about 10 days. Because we're here for a while.
Caroline and I took a kid-free outing yesterday. We got in the car and I said, "Do you hear that?" She smiled and we didn't say a word for the rest of the day. Kidding. But, it was lovely.
We drove a mile down the street into downtown by the sea. I love this town. Everything is about a mile away.
The ice cream man plays "It's a Small World" from the Disneyland ride. Blissful.
We went to the Museum of Contemporary Art. It was awesome. Truth be told, Caroline and I could go to a goat farm and clean out the stalls and still have fun. But, this really was cool.
Dined at their cafe. Egg salad and chili for Caroline. Asparagus and wild truffle grilled cheese for me. Carbs don't count on vacation, remember?
We spent most of the meal eavesdropping on a conversation nearby. This lady was the main attraction. Esther. With an H. We heard all about her life. And, her friend Ester without an H. The coma she was in. Her friends. She was a hoot. A picture.....disguised, of course.....to protect the innocent:
It is my opinion, after this lunch, that everyone should own a feathered hat.
More on the museum.......super cool inside and out.
We shopped afterwards. Everything about La Jolla is cute.
What? You don't go to libraries on vacation? Look at that card catalog! (Sass, that's where you used to look up book locations. Before that app on your IPhone.)
Next up, Cups for dessert. 100% organic and green. Impressive. And, delicious! Doesn't Caroline look pretty here? I know she's sick of me telling her, but I haven't seen her look this good in years.
Which makes me not want to sit by her in pictures, but I do anyway.
Looks like a place for cocktails. Hip music and sweet sugary deliciousness filled the air.
The damage. I tried old school vanilla because I'm boring like that. Caroline? Chocolate milk. Then, we got some more minis to take to dinner at Merrilee's. The kids don't know the difference between gourmet cupcakes and the Target brand, but they were so cute. I couldn't resist.
We returned to the beach house to find semi-naked kids and a shirtless husband out on the balcony.
We clothed the children and headed to Encinitas for dinner with old friends.
Carrie, Merrilee and me. Love these girls!
There were 6 kids running around their darling house. Craziness. Here is Dane.
Left to right......Jack, Dane, Hagen, Ellery and Lainey.
Lookin' like his Pa.
The band. They work for cupcakes.
We all fixed our plates and gave the kids their treats in hopes of 5 minutes to eat. Nearly successful.
Had a fabulous meal! Carrie, Ryan, Darin, Merrilee and Blake.
Some history......most of us went to high school and Merrilee and I went K-12 together. Merrilee was Blake's first love. We told this to Carter and squealed with awkwardness. Then, he told me to wear my heals that night. In case we got in a scrap. Nice.
Their house is precious.
Carrie bugged Carter a good portion of the evening.
And, he liked it.
Weird ripple effect on this one from the flames.
Mer busted out this chocolate goodness.
And, Carrie's pregnancy cravings took over. She earned it!
We left around 1:00am and headed back to La Jolla. And, I was up at 7am with restless toddlers. 'Tis the life with little ones!
Big day planned with our California family. Farmer's Market, lunch, surfing, etc. Can't wait to see the crew!
