La Jolla Vacation - Day 8

We purposely took it easy on this day after 13 hours of Disneyland the day prior. My Aunt Donna came down to visit and we took a walk down to the beach down the street.

***I must note, too, that the beach house we stay in is my Aunt Donna's. 2 weeks in La Jolla costs a pretty shiny penny and certainly one we don't have while unemployed (or employed, for that matter!). They live elsewhere in California and use this place as a weekend getaway. We are grateful they share it with us!

This is the beach within walking distance.......very good surfing......and a lovely place to watch the sunset.

It's not nearly as crowded as La Jolla Shores, one of the top 10 beaches in the nation for kids and families. That's the one you'll see Carter surfing in and where we typically set up camp for long days. Carter can't surf at Windansea. Too serious of waves.

Donna brought the ever popular Pepper the Pug. His Facebook fan page can be found here. My cousin, Cam, is as wacky as we are and started one for him.

Someone walked by and said, "Look! It's the princess and the pug."

"Don't picture me!" Always cooperative Jack.

Pugs are so pretty. :)

While scratching his booty, Jack pointed out that dogs are not allowed on the beach.

Poor Pepper. He was not sure of Lainey, nor her walking tactics.

Caroline suggested playing charades. Always a good time with these kids.

Cawowine's turn.

Donna protected Pepper from all the excitement.

"Hmmm......wet me see."

Carter, Donna, and Caroline.

I love La Jolla. Our kids usually do lemonade stands. These kids do art sales.

Two Carolines and two pugs.

That evening, Caroline and I plus kids ventured into Old Town. On the way, we found this Coney Island-esque village by the sea. Must visit next trip.

Caroline and Carter made their annual hand-dipped candle. Since our insurance is at an all time high right now, I opted to not expose Jack and Lainey's delicate skin to hot wax.

We took a walk and I shot a few pictures. Love these punks.

Reunited.

"Chicken butt", exclaimed Jack, as he settled into this pose. Nice.

See? See? Moccasins for sale!

You know our love of all things haunted.....and Old Town has seen some ghosts. Part of it was built on an old burial ground.

Ate dinner near this stage.

Lainey and Caroline were very impressed.

Look! He's smiling AND looking at the camera!

Dinner.

Pressed pennies. The kids have such a collection now!

Day 9 coming soon. I'm off to work! Nothing like returning to reality with a shift and then a long grocery list awaiting afterwards. These people around here seem to want to eat. Details.

I figured with your annual trips here you would have found Mission Beach by now. Sorry, I would have been happy to tell you all about it. It's a fun place to walk around on the boardwalk, shop and play around on the rides. Not a family friendly beach though. This is the local teen hangout and it's known for it's partying. That is a fun bumpy rollercoaster. Can't wait to see what else you did. Keep the updates coming...after you feed the kids, of course!

p.s. Like the others said...can I borrow your Aunt Donna?

Jack cracks me up! He reminds me of my Jaxon. Love all the pics, even the "chicken butt"!!! Ha!

We always do the press penny thing too, but I have no clue where any of them are!

I love how Caroline and Carter look exactly the same in picture 1 and 2 yet the littles have squatted and turned around.

Pam - we went to Mission Beach last year and loved it. Lots of shells you can't find at La Jolla Shores. I'm so glad we met.....I'll be in touch before we plan our next trip there! You seem like a wealth of information.

Blake was at home.....taking a break from us. For some reason, he thinks Caroline and I can be kinda annoying when we're together. Hmmm.....
