Turtle Walk

We're walking all we can right now before the super cold months hit and we're inside a lot. Mama + kids inside all day = possible meltdown. Scratch the possible, on second thought. It's highly likely. And, it's not good.

A little history on where we live......we have an unusual amount of wildlife in our very suburban neighborhood. Our latest spotting was a snapping turtle crossing the street. I found him mid-walk-across.....drove up close......decided he looked really scary......and that I might get my hand bit off if I tried to move him......so, I went home and nominated Blake.

We loaded the kids up, drove to rescue him and he was gone. Not squashed, but gone. Later, I found that a neighbor moved him! Love that we're not the only rescuers here.

So, on our last walk, we were in search of turtles. My wildlife crew:

We headed down to this creek to get started.

Walked along the water, where it was kid-safe and not muddy, and found nothing. A little disappointing. I really had envisioned them all hanging out on the rocks, just waiting for us to discover them. Not so much.

The idea of this crew actually finding something wild is really quite ridiculous. They hear us coming from a mile away.

That doesn't stop us from trying, though.

There's plenty of room to run.....and run.....and run......and tire them out before dinner.

And, so much to see. Colors to point out. Griswold trees to discuss.

Crab apples to pick up and throw.

Leaves to crunch and kick.

The beauty of Fall......it's nearly gone.......so I'll be dreaming of next year!

Our first Fall in the Midwest has been heavenly. Such gorgeous, gorgeous color.....and to see it all change - on a daily basis - is really quite wonderful to witness.

The kiddos embraced it, too. They love what we love. They talk about what we teach them. Take a walk outside and see what you can find. It's really that easy!
