Last night was serious fun, peeps. Great weather......great neighbors......loved it!
I've pretty much given up on buying costumes. Carter doesn't want the ready-made variety.....Jack is totally unpredictable....and Lainey wants to be a princess every day of the year. Why would Halloween be any different?
So, I pull out the basket of costumes past......and throughout the season, the children tend to wear different things. Last night, Jack started out as a super hero and then switched to a cowboy.
Absolutely love this picture of Jack and Lainey. Happy kids.
3 of our biggest spiders came out for the big event. We watched this guy eat a bee.
I CANNOT STAND SPIDERS. However, I know they're helpful and I totally marvel at the webs they spin. Such hard work for a simple meal.
You can see one on the gazebo.....casting his web near the pole on the right. Earlier in the day, I was cleaning up the back yard and went out to pick up one of the kids' chairs. I walked into a web and felt something in my hair, but thought it was a moth of some sort b/c it bounced right back out as soon as I shook my head. Now, I realize it was this deadly beast. I won't sleep for a week knowing this.
Enough spider talk. I'm pretty sure there's one on me right now. Get off! Get off!
Anyway, our attempts at a group photo produced a wealth of successful options, but I chose the best to post. Lunatics. All 3 of them!
With Mom.
No caption necessary. And, yes, he's going to kill me for this. I giggled about changing his Facebook profile picture (dumby hasn't changed his password since I set it up for him), but he threatened my life if I do. He never said I couldn't change my picture, though. :)
Laine didn't waste anytime before sampling our candy to hand out.
We lit pumpkins.
And, our littlest weirdo posed with them.
Sweet neighborhood girls......Bella and Emma.
Jessie arrives to get some candy. She and Lainey were in princess heaven.
Love our neighbor, Miss Daryl. As in Daryl Hannah. Isn't that perfect for California? Her house is always darling.
The fam inside. Love her entry table!
Kids with Miss Daryl.
Goofy Blake wore his spotlight. Helpful, actually!
Of course, the kids had to try it on.
Candy galore.
Blake is off to Vegas. First day of work and the poor guy has to spend the week at a fab conference in the city that never sleeps.
We have some busy days ahead with Preschool Registration and preparing the little ones for their first day. Back soon!

Fun! I'm so glad all that candy is not in my house. I'm gaining weight just thinking about it. I did make choc chip cookies and they smelled soooooo good that I struggled to stay away from them. (I ate 2 last night) The amount of butter I put in them is helping me stay away for the most part(2 sticks).
They look precious! I notice Blake is carrying a plastic cup with him....looks like you trick-or-treat the same way we do. Must not drink Margaritas on Halloween again!!
Love the pics! Yeah poor Blake - a week in Vegas sans kids! Looks like Halloween was productive for the Starnes kids!
fun fun fun!!! except for the spiders *shudder* blech.
they are all so darling and so are you and blake (haha)! happy halloween.
Goodness they are cute--I love those little faces. And your husband as Thomas the Train? Priceless!
Looks like fun. I love that you dress up with the kids and that there was a costume change midway. Awesome. It looks like you have settled into the neighborhood nicely. Way to go. Spiders..mysterious..wonderous.. creepy. I love the pics. Silly Lainey.
Love all of it. Love that you pull out the old costumes.
Las Vegas. I feel like I was just talking about that place earlier today. Weird.
What a fun Halloween! I am not sure who had more fun -- the punks or their parents! You guys rock!
whoa, look at all that candy! looks like you had a great first halloween in cali:)
Three thoughts-
1. I am still in love with your haircut. It's so cute on you.
2. That picture of Lainey and Jack is such a framer. Awesome picture.
3. I wanna be Daryl Hannah's neighbor. No fair.
Great Halloween! Blake reminds me of Ben in so many ways, in this post it was the headlamp! Love the kids' costumes and they fact that my kids aren't the only ones who change their minds.
Have a great week!
Blake makes a darling Thomas! :)
Love all the costumes and pics. Your neighbor, Daryl reminds me a lot of my grandparents neighbor, Lucy who used to spoil us rotten on all of the holidays. So fun to have someone like that around!!
It looks like you guys had a great time on your first Halloween in California!
Daryl doesn't still dress up like a mermaid, does she??
