Mother's Day And My Newest Challenge

We had the usual weekend routine.  Beach, cook out, fire pit in the back yard, Doug and Brody visited, etc.  And, although the boys wanted to plant themselves in the red Adirondack chairs on Sunday, I insisted we go into the city.

First up, Seaport Village for a walk to see the boats, lunch and some shopping.  My plan was to shop and buy myself something I wouldn't normally indulge in.  Like a pair of shoes or something for the house.  Didn't happen.  I chickened out.  I did buy Lainey a super cute swimsuit.  Which, ultimately, kind of feels like it's for me.

The Village was packed with all sorts of kooky tourist-type things to do.  Totally our style.  (Hush, Cam.  We almost went to Old Town!!!!!!!)

Everything is in bloom.  Beautiful!

Then, we drove over to the always fabulous Hotel Del Coronado.  On our way in, we spotted this:

Obviously, it's a marriage proposal for a couple just entering the hotel.  So romantic!

Doug is one of the Delts, remember.......we're starting to call him our "college kid".  He's been at our house for the last 4 weekends.  Even brings his laundry.  He, too, has been bit by the California bug and is ready to leave KC for it.  Time will tell!

We sat on the sunset deck and watched the kids play in the sand.  Gorgeous views.

Jackie even gave me a kiss.  Typically, "Kisses are yuck."

Notice my hair?  Blonde!  We did highlights and lowlights to blend.  Will add to it over the next several appointments to go fully blonde.

Punks made themselves comfortable by the fire pit.

Lainey says we're "sisters" now because of my hair.  Jack hates it and thinks all girls should have long hair.  Carter said I look like a Japanese anime.  I don't know what that is and I'm scared to google it.

Went up to see Kate Morgan's room.......the ghost who haunts the Del.

It was a fun visit.  Enjoyed it very much!

And, finally.  I have a confession to make.

"My name is Casey and I still use a point-and-shoot camera."

(((((((((((((Hi, Casey!))))))))))))

Here's why:  I've always been afraid of making the investment.  I take my camera everywhere and have been weary of a kid spilling a juice box on it and such.  However, when my boss offered to sell me one of hers, I had to go for it.  I paid a fraction of the real price (which costs more than my first car, mind you), bought an extra lens and now just need a good case.  I'm in love with it.  And, I'm terrified of it.  No idea where to even start!

Isn't she gorgeous?  This one, of course, isn't brand new, but here is the current model.

Oh, hell, I think it is, anyway.  I'm pretty much terrified to even pick the thing up, so I'll keep you informed as to what it is once I figure it out myself.  :)

First up - try to figure out how to turn it on!

Busy week, folks.

*Mission project due Friday.  Carter has to construct an entire Southern California style mission.  Not easy.

*Preschool picture day today.

*Volunteer twice at school.

*Work and the usual routine.

*Pa visits on Friday!  We can't wait to see him.

Hope yall had a great holiday!

You and Blake are stinkin' CUTE together....no wonder your kids are so beautiful! Glad you had a nice Mother's day! Nate bought us a fancy shmancy camera 2 years ago, and I'm still scared of it! I need to learn how to use some of the features to make it worth the $$!!

I love my rebel! Just shoot on P, it's program without the flash. Also, the WB button or white balance is a great tool if your pics are coming out too blue or yellow.

got my fancy camera shortly after I found out I was preggers..so two years ago. I just took a camera class last weekend at FW Camera. It was good...but needed more one one time for my specific camera...but it was only 30 bucks for two hours. I've been practicing a lot. Also, look for a podcast on how to use your camera....there are tons out there!

WTF is a Japanese anime?

I have a new camera too, and have no freaking idea how to use it.

I hate to see that your family is not enjoying all that life has to offer in Cali. Such a shame.

Love that you dragged everyone into the city for the day. Looks like fun!!

I just learned to use my fancy camera. Had it for 2 years. Still don't know 3/4 of what I should. I need to take a class. Fitz- call me next time you do that. I'll go with!!!

Happy belated mama's day!! Love this post.

Especially that sidewalk proposal. So sweet.
And the pic of Jack giving you a kiss... that needs to be blown up and put in a frame.
And hot damn with the blonde hair!! Owww owwww!! (bom chicka bawm bawm)

Yes. I just found a way to type out the quasi porn theme song I was singing to myself. While in bed with my cats. Reading your blog. That just got weird really fast. So I will go now.

Okay, first of all HI DOUG! Don't leave Kansas. It's in the 90s, stupidly humid, and bugs are everywhere. It's perfect.
Oh The Del. Glad you checked out the haunted room. Did I ever tell you the story of when Tone and I went up there to see it? I said, "I SUMMON THE GHOST OF KATE MORGAN!" And he ran away scared. We fought about ghosts and whether or not they're real that night. Dumb.
Love the blonde! Glad the pics don't looked like you ripped one, dino. Nice camera, too!
Tell Carter to text me. I miss him.
Loves.

I was afraid of moving from the point and shoot too! Once you move on though you'll never go back. I know you will soon be taking professional looking photos! Can't wait to see what you do with the big boy (camera).

LOVE the hair!! Looks great on you.

Glad you had a nice Mother's Day! You deserve it!!

I love the hair!

I took a class here a couple of months ago (it was actually offered as a Groupon), it was really helpful for basic, where to start info. You might check that out. A local wedding photgrapher offers the classes.

I love it, I do miss my point and shoot (it's lost) b/c of the portability though. :/
