Christmas Prep

OK, Halloween.....I love you, but it's time to say goodbye. I saw lots of smart shoppers yesterday gobbling up your discounts....and I look forward to seeing you next year.....but now? We're moving on.

We have 52 days until Santa arrives. 52! And, before that......yummy Thanksgiving.....filled with tradition and love and lots of good dishes.

Our Elf on the Shelf usually makes an appearance during Thanksgiving.....typically the day after......to launch the true Christmas season. If you don't have one, I highly recommend taking a look at this site. It's a precious addition to the holidays.....my favorite since having children. Ours arrived a few years ago.......check out the details here.

And, since we're talking Christmas.......let's talk about planning. I know I'm a bit nutty in this department, but it has served us well in the past and certainly prevents many a Christmas tantrum I'd likely have if I were not prepared. Take a look at this site......lots of good information on creating a simple Christmas. Budgeting, shopping, working on Christmas cards now......planning a charity project, decorating and baking. I'm in heaven just thinking of it all!

And, while we're talking about charity.......keep in mind that it often needs to be planned now in order for recipients to receive items on Christmas. We participated in Operation Christmas Child last year and will be doing so again this year. I love this project. Pack a shoebox for a child in need and provide them with small gifts and essentials for the season.

There are plenty of details on their website and here's a link to my post last year summarizing how it works. National Collection week for this charity is November 16 - 23. So, plan now if you're interested. I really think this project is a good fit for us because it fully involves the kids and also encourages them to pray for the children in need.....taking "giving" to an extended level, which doesn't end after the box is shipped.

I believe that's it for now.....back later with my favorite Thanksgiving craft!

Elf on the Shelf rocks! I'm so glad to know about that website. My kids are going to be so excited to register our elf!

You rock too Casey! I only dream about being as organized and on top of things as you are. One of these days...

We received this last year as a gift from my BFF. Chatty loved it. Let's hope it works this year since her behavior has been less than stellar.

Operation Christmas Child is based out of Charlotte due to the fact that Billy Graham ministries is based here.
It's a great organization.

Love elf on a shelf.

We always do the Angel Tree when we go to Fort Worth.

And as you know, my Christmas cards are already D.O.N.E.

Elf on the Shelf has been in the basement since August when you told me about it. Can't wait to put it on the front porch after Thanksgiving. Tony's a little freaked out by him. The girls will love it!
YAY! You count down, too! Christmas in Kansas City is FUN. Always decked out to the max. Hell, there's even a song about Christmas in KC. It's lame, but it's a song nonetheless.
