Saying Goodbye To Summer

Today is our last day....tonight is "Sneak A Peak" at school....a trip to the neighborhood pool.....a big Cajun Meatloaf and Crash Hot Potato dinner...and then the bus arrives tomorrow morning. We have a 3rd grader. Can that be right?

Carter is excited....he genuinely enjoys learning, so the start of school is always welcome. Love that kid.

I'm dreaming of cooler temperatures, as you can imagine. Forecast shows highs in the 80's for the next couple of weeks and even a 77 in there, too! Sounds good to me. I can't wait for our patio to become a dining room again....early fall dinners under the trees with 7:00 bedtimes shortly after.

The bird baths will dry up and pumpkins will take their place. Pumpkins everywhere. I'm giddy just thinking about it.

Always a sign of summer ending......the locusts shedding their shells. They are creepy fun, aren't they?

Here is one fresh out of his old skin. I will miss their singing come fall....reminds me of southern Louisiana. Do you have them where you live? Most people tend to feel annoyed by them. Lainey is horrified of them. Carter brings them inside. To each, his own!

I was happy to see my sweet potato vine growing again. For months, I had only twigs.....some critter had been feasting on both the limey green and purple varieties.

Most of my pots are out of control and growing like mad.

Time for mums, don't you think? Orange and crimson red....even white....to contrast with the pumpkins, of course. :)

Back tomorrow with first day of school pictures. Stay tuned!

Good luck to Carter on his first day at his new school!

Your post made me very excited for fall and cooler weather! I'm not a big fan of the heat either, especially by the end of summer.

Your family picture on your header is great.

I am so ready for the Fall too. I can't believe school is starting already. I always loved the first day of school too. As for the locusts...I hear them loud and clear at my parent's house in North Dallas, but I don't hear them at all in Frisco. Weird.

I personally love the end of summer, and the arrival of fall. I love sweater weather and going to the cider mall. And school starting. This is a great post!!

How do you make Cajun meatloaf? Sounds yummy!
