Any
recommendations? I'm looking for the perfect summer book to take to California.
Considering this, but not sure if it's the fun beach book I'm in search of.
Maybe a Jodi
Picoult? Seems like she's everywhere these days. Saw
My Sister's Keeper this evening and bawled my eyes out. And, I mean, I cried like a baby.
Uncomfortable, out-loud, wish-the-theater-wasn't-full kind of cries. Are they all like this?
I need help, people. Two years ago, I brought this to
Cabo. An absolutely fantastic book, but an adolescent in the Holocaust struggling to survive doesn't exactly scream summer fun.
What are you reading now?

I just picked up Rattled by Chrisina Coppa, I haven't read enough of it to give you a good recommendation. It is probably a good beach read though. I saw it on Matt Logelin's blog, do you follow him? http://www.mattlogelin.com/
My upcoming read list includes:
Journals for Jordan-Dana Canedy
The Geography of Bliss-Eric Weiner
The Middle Place-Kelly Corrigan (I'm thinking you have mentioned reading The Middle Place)
If you read any of these let me know if you liked them.
A couple of summers ago I read a few books by Judy Blume (she writes adult books also) and loved her book called "Summer Sisters" and "Smart Women". They were both great and I couldn't put them down!
I have also fallen in love with Gregory Maguire. I've read and seen Wicked, Son of a Witch, Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister (my favorite so far and would be the best beach book in my opinon), and I'm reading Mirror Mirror right now!
I hope one of these sparks your interest, I'm also always looking for great books, if you would like to pass along some names I would be very thankful!
Enjoy your time a the beach!!
Several years ago I read Summer Sisters too - it was good (I was big into Judy Blume as a kid); I just finished reading the Jodi Piccoult book - if you want I can mail to you (seriously, let me know it is sitting in my nightstand). Sophie Kinsella aka Madeleine Wickham (Shopaholic series) has a new one out. They have it at Costco.
My next read is The Fixer Upper by Mary Kay Andrews. I read Savannah Breeze while I was on vacay. It was a fab beach book. Can't wait to pick up the new one!
People Magazine...that's all I read...
Carrie.....seriously.....don't try so hard to make yourself look smart!
I think we have different tastes in books and you seem to read much "heavier" books than I do. But if you want some fun, easy reads for vacation..... I like Janet Evonovich. She has a series character named Stifanie Plum-the books go from 1 to 15 (just came out). They are light and funny. She is a not-so-great bounty hunter in love with 2 hot men!
Quaker Summer by Lisa Samson
It was the 2007 Women of Faith fiction novel of the year. It's inspiring and not heavy. It's a light fun read. I read it on our vacation.
I love Janet Evanovich's Stefanie Plum series too. They are fun reads. If you do decide to read them, be sure and read them in order starting with "One for the Money". They are fast reads too.
I fretted over this too, and came armed to the beach with 3 books, including When you are engulfed in flames. I read exactly one page from one book the entire week. Sigh. I really miss reading, I just can't seem to do it these days!
Ok - I got my books mixed up. I read a lot of Jodi Piccoult and thought I had read her new one but it was Anita Shreve (author of The Pilot's Wife) book Testimony ... sorry ... you can have it if you want.
I'm with Carrie...People, US and InStyle Magazines. I also love all of Sophie Kinsella's books. When I'm on the beach reading, I want something light and fun....and something I don't have to think too hard about to read!
I just read "Shanghai Girls" by Lisa See while on vacation. Not exactly a beach read, but I really enjoyed it.
I read summer sisters ages ago...good beach read...check it out...
