Fourth Of July Wrap Up

A few more pictures from our Independence Day celebration. We started out in the kitchen that day attempting to turn Whatever's rainbow cake into a patriotic one.

However, I forgot one important step. Leveling each layer.

Lesson learned. Isn't it hideous? OK, so a piece was cut out at this point, but just prior to slicing, it was basically separating on its own.

Individually, it was lovely. Maybe I should have just posted this picture? Nah.....I am so far from a good cook.....let's be honest!

We next attempted to food color rice crispie treats and then cut them into shapes.

The kids enjoyed getting involved.

But, the end product was not so pretty.

Off to the fireworks....

Football for everyone!

Lainey, included, although she's not so good at sharing.

The set up. Beautiful venue.....good music.....summertime fun. By the time we left, I wanted a sweater. Lovely.

Watermelon time.

Then, Caroline broke out the big guns. Fun Dip. Guess who is most popular now?

She even got a few kisses.

The night ended with some parking lot dancin'. Those are some serious moves.

Jack, too!

So, the 4th is over and we're busy with the vacation itinerary. Finally found a photographer for pictures on the beach.....our second professional photo shoot in 9+ years of marriage. I don't care for staged pictures most of the time.....we never look like ourselves and so I've always been happy with our candid ones. But, it's time....and the destination is gorgeous......happy to do it! Booking our cabin in the Grand Canyon this evening. Buying Disney tickets soon, too. Planning lots of day trips to check out California's natural beauty. It's on, baby! I can't wait!

Love the cake pics.

I'm glad you found a photographer. I've been such a slacker on that..

I'm glad that your trip planning is also coming together..

I love LOVE LOVE the one of Jack kissing Caroline! man, what a fun Aunt! By the way, the cake looks so good! I have never made a layer cake...I would have forgotten to level the layers too.

How the heck do you ice a leveled cake? I mean, wouldn't the cake fall apart in the icing and leave crumbs in the icing?

Your cake is so cute! Halle Caroline and I made a pink and green layered one. Aprons are cute and I'm a loser on Jacks! Send me a message on facebook or email me heathercheatham@yahoo.com (your address that is!) I have been swamped with orders - I kept thinking that things would slow down and I would do Jack's but they haven't. I have Halle Caroline's bday party at my house on Friday...hopefully things will get better after that.

Seriously, is Lainey ever not dressed to the nines??? So glad you are having fun with Caroline!

I cannot wait to follow your adventures to the Grand Canyon and Disney - we have never traveled West as a family - but something my husband always suggests. Can't wait to get ideas from you. I've always wanted to go to the Grand Canyon - flown over it lots of times, but never been there.

I love baking - actually I have a love hate relationship with it. Love it but becuase I am so type A I get frustrated when things don't turn out right, so needless to say this cracks me up! You know they even make a tool to level the cake for you ... I give you an A for effort and an A+ for creativity!

Even though the cake is leaning...it looks soooo good! I could eat cake every day.

I'm so excited about your Southern California vacation. We are going in September and doing some of the same things you are...Disney, del Coronado, etc...make sure you share all the best parts so that I can change our itinerary as necessary.

Heather, you flatter me! She is my only girl. I have no shame in dressing her. I also have no will power.

Sent you an email with my address!
