Question Of The Week

Submitted by Carrie (blog coming soon).

Snacks.....it's an everyday chore to buy for and prepare.....not only for the kids, but me, too. Snacks = lunch in this family b/c I take advantage of kids on the go and so we munch all day. A zoo trip includes grapes, cheese cubes, fresh peaches from the farmer's market, a pb&j for Carter, and pretzels. I like to pack food rather than buying out. Saves money and calories!

***So, what snacks do you pack? What are some creative options?

Snacks--a struggle for years. I think a peanut butter sandwich (1/2 without crust--even less calories when you remove the crust) tends to stick with my kids. Fruit is good too. Protein is key! Apples and peanut butter... I have older kids too so we get that low cal spreadable cheese and wheat thins or melba toast. Fiber 1 bars seem to hold me over.

Having just spent 2 weeks packing snacks to take to satisfy 4 kids on a boat all day, this is fresh on my mind! Our favorites include PBJs, string cheese, grapes, apples, plums (my boys' favorite), pretzels, raisins, and fruit roll ups.

i am eating a bag of grapes as i type. i think cheese and peanut butter crackers are good.
the protein will help you not be hungry again soon. the 100 calorie snacks are good too..not only b/c low calorie but also b/c the small bags each kid can have their own.

Fruit Cups, Granola Bars, Grapes, Goldfish, cheese & crackers, PB & crackers, cereal, also pretty much any kind of 100 calorie snack pack. I also take cheese if I have somewhere to keep it cool (i.e. cooler). And since we live in the desert lots of water bottles.

Peanut butter on celery is a great healthy snack. Also, when I go hiking I always try and cut all sorts of veggies and throw them into a ziploc bag. Red and green peppers, celery, carrots, etc..

We don't eat on the go too much so I am not qualified to answer. Usually stop and eat out somewhere since we enjoy it. But one snack is usually packed and just so happens it's Goldfish as pictured.

Love me some snacks too! PBJ's for all, string cheese, grapes, watermelon, goldfish, crackers, cheese puffs, cheese cubes sums it up for the kids. I love string cheese, south beach bars, peporoni slices and cheese are perfect too.

string cheese (cooler), goldfish, grapes for sure, raisins, apples, tuna take alongs (which hubby hates, but i love- the starkist all in one lunch thingie), fiber one bars (lol!), and lunchable kiddie size (ll calls them 'meatballs' b/c they are small chunks of turkey, cheese, and ritz crackers!)

I don't have kids, but I do like snacks! String cheese, red bell pepper slices, turkey jerky (low fat, low carbs, high protein), protein bars. I stay away from 100 calorie packs....too many carbs for the calories for me!

OMG...I wish I ate as many fruits and vegies as everyone else. Maybe I will when I have kids. For now I will stick to my 100 calorie packs. I like the cheezits, wheat thins and milano cookies.

With a two year old who doesn't eat fruit or veggies, I am pretty limited to taking string cheese, juice, dry cereal and Cason's all time favorite Pirate's Booty. I seem to carry a small cooler everywhere we go.

The girls LOVE junk-especially candy. I buy the pack of small cereal boxes and let them choose their favorite. They forget all about cookies and candy when they have their own little special box.
Everything else is the same as the above snacks--although, my mom used to make 'trail mix'. I realize now it was just random things she had in the kitchen thrown into a tupperware. Chocolate chips, marshmellows, nuts, raisins, etc. We loved it in the car as kiddos.

Thanks for making this a question of the week Casey!

Hagen can't eat much cheese (if you know what I mean) so I was just curious to other people's snack ideas.

We do:
Goldfish
Chex Mix
Marshmellows
Grapes
Strawberries
Strawberry newton bites
Chewy granola bars
Raisins
nilla wafers
string cheese

He also LOVES raw carrots in ranch. We are working on Broccoli now (baby trees). LOVES bananas too, but going back to the cheese thing...it doesnt' work to well for him!
