Foreign Films

I think you're supposed to call them that....."films".......instead of movies. Sounds cooler, anyway.

I saw one this evening. I try to work in some culture here and there......only so many Nicholas Sparks movies that I can stomach. (No offense to anyone.....I read his early books and still love The Notebook.)

Anyway, I saw, The Secret In Their Eyes. Awesome. Purely awesome.

Crime, romance, betrayal, insanity.....it had it all. The plot was overlapped and complicated, but easy to follow. I loved it.

A favorite line that has stayed with me:

"Memories are eventually all we're left with. Be careful in choosing the right ones to keep."

Others I've loved over the years (all in subtitles, like this one):

Just recently saw The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and loved it, too. I see all of these alone, of course. Blake and I have been married for 10 years and have seen, I think, 2 movies together. One was Superbad. He was laughing like a 14 year old boy during the entire thing. No chance I'll get him to one with subtitles.

How about you? Do you see foreign films? Favorites?

You know what That Man and I watch when we watch movies together? No Country for Old Men, Death Proof, Superbad and The Assassination of Jesse James. Seriously. We've seen NCFOM and DP at least 15 times...Superbad? Too many to count McLovin.

I have never seen a foreign film. I really don't know why. After seeing your post I just might have to see one. I have always thought reading the subtitles would be a lot of work. I really need to grow up and be more open to things! Thanks for opening my mind at this late hour!

well, you named one of my all time favorite movies or films... Life is Beautiful. Oh, it is wonderful and it sticks with you. I also enjoyed Amelie and Y Tu Mama Tambien... a little racy :)
But, I don't want to leave you with the impression that I am cultured.... I will take Talladega Nights over most anything!

Now that I think of it, Tone and I watch a lot of foreign films. And yes, they must be called films. Much cooler.
The one I just previewed? LOOKS INCREDIBLE. Going to keep my eye out for that one. Good find.
Favorites over the years:
The Diving Bell and The Butterfly, Pan's Labyrinth, and Amelie, and Y Tu Mama Tambien <--you'd like that one.
Good post, Case!

After watching the Oscars this year, there were a ton of foreign films I wanted to see. And now I've forgotten every single one of them. I think I commented on one of your posts about them?? I need to go back through and stalk your blog to see if I put specific titles out there.
I have seen several foreign films, but.....
Take note of this with me - I do not remember movie titles, quotes in movies or song titles. Trey tries to quiz me all the time and I fail miserably. It's sad, really.

I still cry when I just THINK about Life is Beautiful. Awesome.

I don't mind subtitles at all, but no way will Adam do it. He is dyslexic so it is a beating to sit through a movie like that with him. I did it once and won't again.

Superbad is one of my top 10 favorite movies.
I'm serious.

Sad to say that I haven't seen a movie with subtitles. But you make me want to. :)

i've always thought to watch foreign films but never quite persued it. i think i might love them--they all seem dark and brooding with a lot sex. don't know where the sex thing comes from, but, whatever.

and the husband would watch with me until he fell asleep. which would most likely be about 20 minutes in...

Maria Full of Grace is another favorite. Forgot to note that one.

And, don't misunderstand me, peeps. I like slapstick movies, too. Just trying to spread the love.

Like you, I have a sig. other who will not go to the movies with me. In almost 4 years, we've probably seen 3 together. After my class, I may just pull a Casey and go solo more often.

You know I'll see just about anything at the Angelika (mostly foreign).

LOL - Ceason and I saw SATC 2 and there was a woman there by herself with popcorn and a coke, and we laughed and said, "There's Casey!"
