Farmer's Market

We visit the market once a week to shop for produce and walk the downtown area. I like showing the kids the fruits and vegetables.....teaching them that these things are grown from the earth instead of in the displays at Target. We talk with the farmers, enjoy a honey staw occasionally and almost always sample the yummy salsa made in Kansas.

I'm challenging the kids to find a vegetable each week and learn how it's grown....some will be a refresher for me, too!

I'm sure we'll eventually indulge in a snowcone or two....and maybe even one of the lovely pies brought in by a local bakery. So much goodness to choose from! Have I mentioned how much we're enjoying our new lives here?

A statue of Mr. William Strang, founder of Overland Park.

We walked over to the Santa Fe Commons Park....the kids love playing at the huge gazebo.

Love the silly look on her face here.

With a statue in the park. Kansas City and surrounding suburbs LOVE statues. And, fountains. Go figure!

www.localharvest.org can help you find markets near you. Check it out!

Glad yall are loving your new town! I love farmer's markets. I don't make the trip to the dallas one very often b/c it is so far away and Mark is always busy Saturday mornings. They just started one at a new shopping center in Allen, so I took the boys on Sat morning to check it out. It was lousy. They had 4 tables-only one of which had fruit/vegies. You just can't compare to Dallas. Maybe I will make the trip next weekend downtown!

Try the downtown KCMO one in the Rivermarket area. You'll love it.

You are having such a wonderful time! I can't wait to visit!!!! Nothing better than a Farmer's Market.

But I have to ask, is Yankee salsa any good?

Thanks, Shannon! We'll try it.

Court, are we yankees? Please don't tell me something about Pace and getting a rope. Either way, it's good! Homemade with plenty of cilantro....my favorite!

I make "HO-made" salsa with LOTS of Cilantro...love it!

I too love farmer's markets. I found one in downtown McKinney that is small...wish there was one that was bigger like the downtown Dallas one! Too far!

Hagen will eat more veggies if he picks them out. His latest thing is dipping raw veggies in Ranch...loves it! Carrots and "baby tree's" (broccoli) being his favorite.

So happy you guys are having fun!

Only Texans consider Kansans to be Yankees. Kansans think that's funny. Yankees live in the northeast, not in the plains.

Casey, this is NOT the midwest I encountered in Enid, OK! I only wish I could have lived in Overland Park! It seems wonderful. Have a great day.

Looks like a great farmer's market! I love those, but we just don't have a lot of them here. Plus the weather is hot as haities when it's prime market time.
